LIVING OUT THE GOSPEL
About the Author
Pedro Belardo
"I was born in a catholic family, the third of five children. I grew up as a diehard catholic sometimes living in the convent of the priest as a sacristan or altar boy. That time it was a big privilege to be able to live with the priests who was respected by all the people of the town. I use to run and climb the high tower of the church and when u are on top u can see the whole town. Every 6 p.m. I used to ring the bell of the church and I felt very powerful because when u ring the bell everybody that are walking will stop and say a prayer. My whole family respected me and use to seek my advice even though I am still young knowing that I lived with the priest. I usually led the whole family in praying the rosary everyday.
From elementary to college I was always on the top ten of the class. I graduated from College as the topnotcher and because of this the College wanted me to open a High School in a certain town but I declined it because I was already planning to study in the Bible School. I thank God that because of this decision, God led me to serve Him in different provinces in the Philippines and after that God opened the doors for me to serve Him in different countries in Asia, the United States, Europe and Australia."
About the Book
This book is all about the testimony of the greatness and the faithfulness of God. Its a story of true to life experiences. This shows that God’s faithfulness never changes to those who fully surrenders their lives to the Lord without any reservation. It shows how God brought me from glory to glory from a humble beginning being the son of a fisherman. Like Abraham who obeyed God without reservation and God brought him to the land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. It is my prayer that God's protection, miracles and healings recorded in this book will be yours too for God is no respecter of persons
Testimony
I was a member of the Legion of Mary and willing to sacrifice my life to defend Mary from any attack. Then one day in 1970, my uncle whom I did not see for many years said that he is going to visit me to tell me about Jesus. I gathered all my catechism books to thwart any attack that my uncle will make against Mary. I felt I was fully prepared for his coming. Finally, he arrived and without any ado, he asked me a question which jolted me. The simple question that he asked was, if God is without end and no beginning, how can Mary being a mere human being can become the mother of God. I could not answer that question. I always prayed 50 times a day, Holy Mary, mother of God but after that I could not pray that prayer anymore. In the night I could not sleep, that question continuous to hound me. It dismantle all my hypocricy and being a holier than thou art attitude. That Sunday I did not go to a catholic church anymore but I went with my uncle in a small chapel. During the altar call I responded and knelt down before the altar and repented of all my sins. God showed me all my sins that I cried and cried before the Lord asking for forgiveness. I didn’t know long I cried but when I opened my eyes. There was only me and the Pastor. I felt a big load was taken out of me and I felt refreshed and filled with joy of my new found faith in Jesus.

Preface
When Pedro Belardo and our partner, Luciano Cariaga, told me they had to fly to Danang, I urged them not to go. It was April, 1975, and North Vietnam was taking over many cities in the south. Many missionaries had already left the country. Only that one plane was left headed to that city near the northern end of South Vietnam. I was afraid they would not be able to return.
But both insisted they had a strong feeling that the Lord wanted them to go. And so they went. As a result, they were able to persuade the Captain of a Philippine Navy boat to allow our Pastor friend, Dang Ngoc Cang and his family of 12 children to leave with them on the boat to Saigon as the North Vietnamese took over the city. The family eventually arrived safe and sound in Akron, Ohio, US.
This is just one example of how my friend Pedro lives out the gospel, which he faithfully continues to do even after so many years of serving Jesus.
Peter, Luciano and I all went through the same training of faith ministry under Harold MacDougal and his team from Hagerstown, Maryland back in the early 1970's. All of us experienced God's miraculous provision, as described by Peter in this book. We were often sent to a city or a nation with a one way ticket, no monthly support and no contact or assurance of where we would be staying for months and years. People would invite us to stay in their homes at no cost, while we went out day after day, ministering the gospel to thousands.
Jesus has proven his promises to be true for the past forty-five years, as we individually have taken literally Jesus' command to his disciples in Mathew 10:7-10: As you go, preach this message: "The Kingdom of Heaven is near..." Do not take any gold or silver or copper... for the worker is worthy of his keep.
I encourage you not only to read this powerful true history but be challenged by it to try the Lord yourself and go by faith, trusting Him alone for provision. I also recommend this book as a required reading in missions and evangelism classes of Bible Schools and Seminaries. It will inspire students when they see that even Filipinos who have no western financial support can sometimes have greater results than those who are fully backed by their mission board. It will inspire students when they see that money is not the problem. Vision, passion and a life of prayer and fasting are the keys to reaching our world for Christ.
